Do it Yourself Hair Colour

Colouring your hair yourself is very easy and rewarding...

Advances in technology has meant that women can now achieve the salon look in the comfort of their own home at a fraction of the price. No longer do you have to spend hours in a salon glued to a chair.

Feemale has teamed up with top hair colour consultants to bring you the 7 easy steps to hair colouring at home.

You will need:

Off the shelf hair colour such as L'Oreal

Hair colouring bowl and brush

Some old towels or cape

Plastic gloves, although these are generally provided in the box

clock

Before you start:

Do a patch test to make sure you are not allergic to the product. Apply a small patch at the back of your neck, just below the hairline.

Do a strand test to see what the end result will be. You can adjust the timing accordingly but never leave the colour on for a longer period than recommended.

Remember that hair dye comes in colors tones, such as red tones, gold tones and green tones. If your current hair colour is with a gold based dye and you decide to dye your hair with a green based dye, then chances are you will end up with disastrous results. You cannot mix dyes with different coloured bases.
