Colouring process:
Step 1 - read the instructions. Don't skip this step as every brand has its own unique set of instructions. For example some brands will ask you to wet your hair others require the product to be applied to dry hair.
Step 2 - if this is the first time you are colouring your hair or if your colour has completely grown out then start by applying the colour with the brush to the roots of your hair. Start with a middle parting and use the end of your brush to part hair every quarter of an inch or so. Continue until all the hair is covered.
Step 3 - if your hair has already been coloured and you are just retouching, then apply the colour to roots but not the ends. The ends are porous and they will absorb the colour a lot quicker than the new growth of hair that has not been coloured. This will result in the ends being a different colour to the rest of the hair. Apply the colour to the ends as recommended in the instructions, usually 10 minutes before the end.
Step 4 - wipe any colour from the skin with a wet flannel. This however can be avoided by putting vaseline on the skin before applying the colour.
Step 5 - once the prescribed amount of time is up, usually 20-30 minutes, add water and lather the colour like shampoo and rince until the water runs clear.
Step 6 - apply the conditioner if supplied in the kit but if not then use a quality intensive conditionor and leave for 10 minutes. Do not shampoo hair before conditioning as this will not allow the colour to intensify.
Step 7 - dry your hair and admire your creation.
