Nepalese Women Need a Sound Future
75% of Nepalese women are illiterate. Nepal has one of the most dire levels of female education in the world, with just 20% of the population being able to read and write. Basic health education and healthcare are also severely lacking.
Women and Girls Concerns:
- During menstruation, Nepalese women and children are treated as outcasts and left in the cow shed. Distribution and ability to purchase sanitary towels is low. They remain there until their period is over.
- 75% of girls cannot read or write
- Education of girls is at the lowest level in the world
- 1 in 50 pregnant women expire during childbirth
- 70% of those in poverty are girls
- 88% of working women work 14 hours or for a greater period of time per day
- Himalayan girls and women are under risk of being sold into prostitution
- Nepalese women have tough and arduous. Nepalese women are the some of the only women whose life expectancy is shorter than that of men
- Nepalese women face challenges ranging from lack of healthcare to menstruation discrimination.
Feemale.com wishes to fund:
- Gynecological camps enabling women to access health services as well as healthcare, enabling them to live more healthy lives. These camps would also provide sex education as there is no sex education within Nepalese education.
- Distribution of free sanitary towels and underwear every month for use by women and girls
- We wish to maximise the potential of women and girls in terms of their health and lives.
