Green tea is extremely good for your health .
Smoking is known to cause of lung cancer and heart disease. However, incidences of these diseases are low in Asian countries, even though smoking is common there.
Yale University researchers have linked green tea to improvements in health and a lesser risk of cancer .
There is of course no suggestion that smokers ignore their habit and purely drink green tea. The research suggests that the concentration of antioxidants called catechins in green tea may be what offers health benefits.
It is common in China, Japan and other Asian countries to drink green tea. It is also less processed than the black tea we consume in the West.
There are 50% fewer men who die in Japan from coronary heart disease every year, compared to American men, despite Japan's greater smoking habit.
However, the rate of death from lung cancer is more or less the same amongst Japanese and American men. Thus green tea should not be relied on solely and smoking continued.
Stopping smoking is the most sensible and successful way of preventing cardiovascular disease as well as cancer.
