Are We Stressed or Normal?

Wed, 31 May 2006

Are a nation of depressives, perhaps a walk around a city centre would tell us what we are.

A new Mintel survey undertaken for the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, 65% of British adults suffer that condition.

In 1993, more than 10m prescriptions of anti-depressants were dispensed in the UK. Now, there are 27m prescriptions for similar drugs.

By 2020 depression is likely to be the second to heart disease as the most disabling condition worldwide.

Do 27m of us actually suffer from depression? Britain's best-selling anti-depressant, Seroxat, can lead to some adults becoming suicidal, so is that the right treatment for them?

It is much more likely that we are suffering from stress . We have much more comfortable lifestyles. However, we much too many expectations. We expect to have the perfect job , perfect home, perfect marriage and fanstastic sex every time.

Well doctors have a great responsibility to ensure that they do not just dole out anti-depressants willy nilly. They need to consider alternative therapies, like reiki and acupuncture.

Patients too should seek alternative help like reiki and not just seek medication.

Reiki is a method that enables the universal energy that emanates everywhere to heal the individual.
