Helena Bonham Carter Hits Out At Ageism

Wed, 04 Oct 2006

Helena Bonham Carter slams ageism in Hollywood .

She starred in Fight Club and has just turned 40. She affirms that tinsel town has an unhealthy obsession with youth, placing unrealistic pressures on older actresses to look younger in order to get roles.

She told Easy Living magazine that this trend is crazy, knowing that of course we are all going to age.

She has been the long term partner of director Tim Burton and clearly admits she dreaded turning 40. She admits however that she hit the landmark age and found it not as "dramatic" as she had thought it would be .

She adds that when she became 40 she thought that it was a dramatic turning point. On that day it dawned on her that the world had not exploded.

Apparently, Helena Bonham Carter prefers being 40 to 20. She asserts that most women do prefer being older to younger. Many of us do feel much more comfortable in our skin at 40 than 20.
