The Czech Republic is a favourite European holiday destination. Its capital, Prague, is a Briton's holiday of choice, with its magnificent gothic architecture. Its panoramic view is astounding.
Prague was hardly damaged during WWI and is fantastic destination for summer holidays or winter holidays for that matter. It has a little medieval city centre with lovely cobbled lanes, old courtyards, ancient churches, all presided over by a 1,100 year old castle.
The spires, steeples, domes and turrets of Prague are so romantic. Climb up the castle with its high walls looming in the skyline and wander around Stare Mesto, the Old Town. Do not forget to take the lift to the top of the Old Town Hall Tower for the spectacular views.
Communism took its dreary hold on Prague for four decades, yet now Prague is one of Europe's top holiday destinations. It has wonderful pubs and inns, complemented by splendid bars, cafes and restaurants. You are still able to have a fabulous meal of pork and dumplings, all swilled down with a cool beer.
As night falls, there are concerts and shows performed every night in the city and a stroll across Charles Bridge is a must.
Best Time to Go
Most of the rest of the Czech Republic is closed or operates on limited hours outside the summer season. Prague, however, is open all year round. There are many more holiday goers at Easter time, during the Christmas and New Year holidays and in May and June.
Most Czechs themselves take their holidays in July and August. During this holiday period, the availability of the cheapest holiday accommodation is higher as student hostels open to tourists.
As long as you can tolerate the cold weather, there is a great deal of hotel availability, other than at Christmas and New Year. Of course remember, Prague is a snow filled paradise.
Look no further for a cheap holiday in Prague most of the year round. .
