Amsterdam is another favourite destination for summer holidays. It is a metropolis for people from all over the world, a favourite holiday destination. It is the capital of the Netherlands.
The city has great museums, like the Van Gogh Museum, Rembrandt Musem and Anne Frank House. Just 5,000 survived WWII; many were deported to concentration camps. The most famous of them was Anne Frank, a young German girl. It also has a world class museum and several coffee shops which sell cannabis.
Amsterdam is a radical mixture of old and new. You will find squatter art alongside 17 th century buildings. You will see Mercs beside bikes and simple inns next to sophisticated cafes.
Amsterdam has a great multicultural mix of people and influences, yet feels very Dutch. The crooked buildings, the cobbled streets and the canals lined by trees and beautiful parks provide a fantastic atmosphere.
When To Go
Amsterdam has hordes of people at Easter time and July-August. Both periods of time have their benefits. From April to May you have the fabulous tulips and daffodils of Amsterdam in all their floral glory. The summer holiday period is an awesome time to just sit by the canal and have a slow drink and something to eat. Alternatively, you can chill in one of is many cost pubs and interact with the Dutch. Holiday accommodation is cheaper during the winter holiday season than in the New Year and the best sights are more or less deserted.
